The case, lid frame, sliding trays and drawer parts are wenge. The drawer fronts are veneered in buckeye burl as well as the lid panel. The drawer bottoms are mahogany.
The sides of the case are joined with hand-cut dovetails, and bridle joints are used for the lid frame and the bottom frame. There are four sliding (lift out) trays. The drawer dividers are removable, allowing the space to be reconfigured.
Because the drawers are slightly different widths (done intentionally to maintain the orientation of the buckeye pattern on the drawer fronts) the dividers are not interchangeable between drawers.
The drawer pulls, lid handles and feet are ebony. The trays, middle compartment, and drawers are lined with black velvet. The lid locks with a half-mortise lock (two keys) and is hinged with brusso hinges. The finish is hand-rubbed oil / varnish and wax. Not available
